I bet you were wondering if I was going to join in at Lisa Jo’s for another Five Minute Friday today. I know I had two other posts this week but there isn’t much that will stop me from taking at least 5 minutes on Fridays to write.
Here’s the rules from Lisa Jo’s sight:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat โ no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Please visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments.
Today’s prompt is “Friend“.
My timer is set.
And GO!
When I was a child, I met my first friend in Kindergarten. We didn’t become best friends until Second Grade. I don’t even remember how we started playing together. We would play on the playground and started visiting at each other’s houses. She was very popular and seemed so outgoing. I was shy. A lot of the kids in our grade at school wanted to be her friend but not mine. That was very hard. Especially as we would play on the playground and the kids would start arguing with us over my needing to share my friend. I would cry. My friend would take my hand and we would run away.
As we got older our friendship changed. We both found new friends. Then we would meet again and it was like we had never been apart. We could carry on a conversation as if we hadn’t missed a beat.
Stop
Ha! I need to get faster with my thoughts. I did delete the last half a sentence because it didn’t make sense to leave the sentence hanging. ๐
I was about to talk about how we lost track of each other but then met again in college and then we were in each other’s weddings.
I don’t talk with her much anymore. But I think the friendships we have in our childhood prepare us for how we will be in adulthood. Now my husband is my best friend that I can talk with whenever I want. He knows more about me and my life than any of my friends in school ever did.
He actually encourages me to write. That’s how I found Five Minute Fridays. Through my writing friendships I have found in the past few months. And now I have Five Minute Friday friends. ๐
Okay. I’ll stop now. I think I might have tacked on a couple of extra minutes worth to the end there. LOL It took me Five minutes just to get the thoughts flowing.
Did you have a childhood friend growing up? Are you still friends? Who do you consider your best friend now?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the word “Friend”. Please share with me in the comments. Let me know if you are writing in Five Minute Friday and I’ll check out your post.

I have a daisy chain of childhood friends. Sometimes it seems like they changed every school year. I had a “best friend” with necklaces and all, but I haven’t seen her since we graduated high school. Odd how friendships ebb and flow. I have a best friend now. We are going through a hard patch, realizing maybe we don’t have the healthiest relationship. It’s difficult, but God is growing both of us and that’s a good thing.

We certainly grow through the friendships God gives us through the years. It’s nice to meet you, Christy! ๐
Great post!
Thank you, WesAnna!
Loved it! Next time shoot for fifteen ๐ You made a beautiful bride!
Thanks, Cristy! It’s hard enough to get 5 minutes uninterrupted. LOL 15 may be pushing it. ๐
Something I love about social media is that a few of my friends from childhood and school days have circled back around and we have reconnected. It’s like you said, when you meet again, it’s as if you were never apart. That’s true friendship.
I agree, Kathleen. Social media has brought us to a new level of keeping up with old friends. I found a lot of my friends on Facebook including the girls in my wedding. It’s wonderful to be able to reconnect.
Friendship is a beautiful thing! lmc
Yes it is, Laura! Thanks!
Good post.
Thank you, Denise!
Love this. Such beautiful thoughts on friendship.
Thanks, Alene!
Howdy, Anastacia! Lovely thoughts on friends.
I connect on FB with my childhood best friend. My camp best friend lives in my same city. I connect with these friends occasionally. Usually digitally. And definitely during Christmas-card season. Tons of special memories there. Yes, our lives and paths have changed.
My best friend, like yours, is my amazing hubby. Other than God, knows the deepest, truest me.
Lastly, Anastacia, sharing our hearts through writing has led me to know you and call you my friend!
Thanks, Shannon! I’m glad you are best friends with your husband.
I’m glad you are my friend too. ๐
The best part of that story is that she would take your hand and you would run away together. We just all need friends what will do that for us, don’t we?
Thanks for swinging by my 5 minute friday this week!
Thanks, Leah! Yes, we all need friends like that. I enjoyed reading your post as well. ๐
On the writing portion, have you considered trying the five minutes without being allowed to stop at all? It’s even more challenging since you’ve got to continue writing even when the thoughts aren’t there.
I’m still friends with some of my childhood friends. We’ve grown further apart as ideologies and life goals continue to diverge…
That would be more challenging. I’m not sure what I would write on those blank moments. LOL But since you mentioned it. I’m going to give it a try next Friday. ๐
Thanks for the idea.
I’m glad you are still friends with some of your childhood friends. It’s always interesting to see where life takes each one.
